When did I last shower again??

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TRESemmé for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

It will probably NOT come as a surprise to learn that I don't always get a shower in everyday.  Are you disgusted?  Well, it's the truth.  Find me ANY busy mom with small children and I will show you a woman who longs for a luxurious, warm, relaxing shower.  (At least that's what I tell myself to make myself feel better...)  With the advent of "Mom Brain" (which is a real syndrome, I swear) shampooing is even harder to keep track of.  I have literally .2 seconds to get into the shower, wet myself, lather myself, rinse and jump out.  Sure you get adept at the jump, wet, lather, rinse race, but remembering anything important in those .2 seconds can be difficult.  For those times you have the added .3 seconds (for a grand total of .5, by the way, which is the longest shower you get with two kids... I shudder to think about what happens when you have more...) you need in order to wash your hair, will you actually remember to do so?  For instance - this is a typical "relaxing" shower for a mom:

"I'm freezing.  I hate winter... I know it's coming, I can feel it.  That means I've got to get the kid's winter clothes out... and the shovel.  Where the heck is the shovel?  Do we still HAVE a shovel?  I HAVE to turn this water up hotter... no wait, now I'm starting to relax.  Turn it down, turn it down!  Wait, did I wash my face yet?  Did I wash my feet?  Does mini have a winter coat that fits?  Where did I put my towel?  Towel!  Oh crap.  I didn't do the laundry yet - I have no clean towels.  Maybe I could use a hand towel... how much time do I have left?  mini will need boots this year since she can walk now.  Should we walk to school today?  What am I thinking.  That would be a fiasco.  Plus I'd probably forget to go to the library for storytime and the store for milk.  I better put black spray paint on the list or I'll never get that project done.  How long have I been scrubbing this foot?"

Do you see why remembering my hair is a problem?

I've come to terms with squeezing a super quick shower in whenever I can and made peace with the shortened routine.  Actually, my dry skin and eczema thank me for it.  The problem?  My hair.

I've heard that it's actually a good idea to shampoo no more than every other day.  Apparently more than that dries your hair out.   But if your hair is anything like mine, skipping a shampoo (like I am so often forced to do - by children or my brain) can leave your hair looking less than stellar.

The solution?  Dry shampoo!  Have you heard of this phenomenon?

I'll be honest.  I tried some dry shampoo a month or so ago and wasn't entirely impressed.  Ok, it was kind of disastrous to be honest.  I sprayed it on, I floofed my hair around with my fingers, and I felt cakey and powdery all day... but TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo has totally helped me see where I went wrong.

TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo is actually a complete line of shampoos that revives your style's look and feel on the days you skip shampooing.  It's uniquely formulated to absorb excess oil and remove odor.  That's a plus.  No one likes smelly hair.  It rejuvenates hair without using even a drop of water!  There's a renewing burst of citrus infused into every product - leaving your hair with a clean, fresh scent.

Why do I think this is so much different than the other dry shampoo product I started with?  Well, two main reasons.  First, this is a complete line of shampoos, so you can pick what will best fit your hair type.  The full line includes:

  • Strengthening Dry Shampoo - with B12 vitamins and keratin to strengthen hair and leave it full of body
  • Volumizing Dry Shampoo - with mineral clay and Citrus removes oil and injects a salon-gorgeous boost of volume
  • Smoothing Dry Shampoo - with Vitamin H and Silk Proteins refreshes a straight style and removes impurities to ensure smoothness lasts
  • Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo - with Witch Hazel, Citrus and Aloe Vera removes oil while still moisturizing your hair.

There's definitely something for every hair type - I think that Smoothing Dry Shampoo or the Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo would be right for me.  I love the idea of customizing your dry shampoo just as you do your normal shampoo.  The other dry shampoo brand I used didn't have this option.

Secondly, TRESemme really wants to help you look your best - really they do!  How do I know this?  Well, they actually have instructions for the proper use of their product.  Super easy to follow, anyone can do it - even ME - type of instructions.  Like this:

  • Shake vigorously before use and in between spurts
  • Lift small sections of hair and spray directly on roots
  • Spray in SHORT BURSTS, holding it about 8-10 inches from your hair
  • DON'T spray it like hairspray - all over and continuously (oops...)
  • Leave it in for 1-2 minutes
  • Use fingertips or brush to distribute it evenly
  • If it gets clogged, remove the nozzle and soak it in hot water, then reattach

Sounds easy.  But if that doesn't help?  There's a video for you too!  Celeb Julia Allison teamed up with TRESemme to create a tutorial showing those of us who are less than skilled how to use our dry shampoo!

You know what the best part of that is?  She's giving away a $500 Target Gift Card to one lucky viewer, so you really need to go over and check out her video and enter to win it!

I'm encouraged by all of these things but what really makes me want to try this product?  I've used TRESemme hairspray for YEARS and I love it.  When something works, you stick with it, right?

In short, I believe TRESemme has made it nearly impossible for me to have more disastrous results with dry shampoo.  If they can help someone like me, who admittedly sometimes forgets when, exactly, I last washed my hair, I'm pretty sure they can help you too.

OMG! I don't really remember the last time I was able to shower with the door closed, yet alone be able to wash every part of my body. I'm lucky--I get about 5 minutes to do everything. And I have forgotten to shave one leg and one armpit before.

The things we moms go through!
