I can't knit...

but I CAN rap.  Er, WRAP, that is.  I can’t rap, I’m a white girl from Wisconsin.  Sheesh.  

Fortunately, my fall wreath only requires the other kind of wrapping, which I can do quite well.  AND furthermore, it does NOT require a whole lot of other talents - not even the adept use of a glue gun (shocking, I know).  So if you are convinced you can’t craft, I’m here to prove you wrong.  And if you are convinced that you CAN craft, but you want a cute little something for your door that will only take you a naptime to complete, then I’m here to... um... prove you right.

In my stash, I have a few wreaths from the thrift store.  I also have yarn.  And those are the only two things you’ll need for this project, besides little bit of cardboard or card stock which hardly even requires mentioning since I know you’ve at least got a box of crackers or some cereal you can filch from.

So if you’ve got ALL THIS STUFF

at least 3 colors of yarn

cardboard

you can make yourself a Stripy Comfy Cozy Wreath, like mine.  No sewing, gluing, painting, podging, cooking, pleating, ironing or SWEARING required.  Yea!

Decide which color will be your “outline” color.  This will be the thin stripe separating the thicker stripes of all the other colors.

Lay your wreath out.  

Cut a bit of "outline" color yarn.  Tie it around the wreath.

Wrap it to the desired thickness.  I wanted it to be a very small border, so I only wrapped it four times.

Cut a bit of another color and tie one end to the already wrapped outline color.

Wrap it around the wreath to the desired thickness.

Add a few wraps of the outline color and tie on the next color.

Wrap.

Now tie and wrap the outline color.

Now do a new color.

Wrap, wrap, wrap.

Repeat.

Squish all the yarn together nice and tight, so you can’t see the straw beneath.

I was going to decorate my yarn wrapped wreath with some felt flowers or something.  But it didn’t feel right.

And then I realized.  What better way to decorate a fall yarn wreath than with homemade pom-poms??

My mom used to make pom poms to tie on my ice skates in the winter time.  She also used little ones for ponytail holders and to adorn the toes of my crocheted slippers.  


PS, this is where the cardboard comes in.  You'll use it to make the pom poms.  You just need to cut two circles the same size and cut holes of the same size in the center.  You can use this tutorial from Samster Mommy.  

So, to finish it off, tie a few pom poms in different sizes and color to the top of the wreath so they hang down in the center.

Anything crochet, knit, or really YARN related at all makes me think of comfy cozy fall and winter - an afghan from my grandma or a sweater from my mom.  Which is how this wreath got its name.
